Wodson's Safeguarding Policy

The Wodson Park Trust believes that all children, young people and adults at risk are entitled to protection from harm, and have the right to take part in sport and leisure activities in a safe, positive and enjoyable environment.

We recognise our ‘duty of care’ responsibilities regarding the safeguarding and welfare of all children, young people and adults at risk, and we are committed to implementing a good Safeguarding Practice to protect them.

The Wodson Park Trust is committed to working in partnership with organisations, clubs and groups that provide physical and recreational activities, to promote and deliver the best possible Safeguarding Practice when working with children, young people and adults at risk.

The Wodson Park Trust recognises that:

  • the welfare of the child, young person and adult at risk is paramount;
  • all children, young people and adults at risk, regardless of their age, disability, gender, racial heritage, religious belief, sexual orientation, or identity have the right to equal protection from all types of harm and/or abuse; and
  • working in partnership with children, young people and adults at risk, their parents/carers, their schools and colleges, their leisure and performing arts instructors, their sports coaches and other statutory agencies is essential in promoting good health and wellbeing.

The purpose of our Safeguarding policy

The purpose of The Wodson Park Trust’s Safeguarding Policy is:

  • to make Wodson Park a place where everybody feels welcome and safe, by embedding respect and equality within our culture, codes of conduct, policies and procedures;
  • to provide protection for all children, young people and adults at risk who use and visit the Wodson Park Sports and Leisure Centre, including the children of our adult Members and users of our facilities;  and
  • to provide Wodson Park’s staff, sessional trainers and coaches, agency staff, students and volunteers with guidance regarding procedures that they should adopt, should they suspect that a child, young person or adult at risk may be experiencing , and/or may be at risk of harm.

Who is responsible for implementing our Safeguarding policy? 

The Wodson Park Trust’s Safeguarding Policy applies to ALL Wodson Park Staff, including at least the following persons:

  • The Wodson Park Trust’s Board of Trustees;
  • Senior Managers;
  • Salaried / Contract / Full-Time and Part-Time Staff;
  • Sessional Instructors, Trainers, and Coaches;
  • Agency Staff;
  • Students;
  • Volunteers; and
  • Anyone working on behalf of The Wodson Park Trust.

How our Safeguarding policy will be implemented

The Wodson Park Trust will seek to safeguard children, young people and adults at risk by:

  • embedding respect and equality within our culture, our codes of conduct, policies and procedures, so that everybody feels welcome and safe at Wodson Park;
  • valuing, respecting and listening to children, young people and adults at risk;
  • adopting ‘best practice’ Safeguarding procedures and a staff code of conduct, so that all of The Wodson Park Trust’s trustees, staff, sessional instructors, trainers and coaches, agency staff, students and volunteers are encouraged to put Safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk at the forefront of everything they do;
  • adopting safe recruiting procedures for our trustees, staff, sessional instructors, trainers and coaches, agency staff, students and volunteers, ensuring all necessary checks (e.g. DBS) are made;
  • actively promoting the importance of Safeguarding Good Practice with children, young people, adults at risk, their parents/carers, our staff, sessional instructors, trainers and coaches, agency staff, students and volunteers;
  • sharing information about our concerns with statutory agencies who need to know, and involving children, young people and adults at risk and their parents/carers appropriately; and
  • providing effective Safeguarding Good Practice management and oversight throughout The Wodson Park Trust’s organisation, via supervision, support and training for our trustees, staff, sessional instructors, trainers and coaches, agency staff, students and volunteers.

 

Safeguarding Policy Review

The Wodson Park Trust is committed to reviewing our Safeguarding Policies and Good Practice at least annually.

The current Child Protection and Adults at Risk Policies were last updated in April 2024.

Diversity and Inclusion Policy

Wodson Park Trust accepts that in society certain groups or individuals are denied equality on the grounds of race, gender, marital status, caring responsibilities, disability, gender reassignment, age, social class, sexual orientation and religion/belief.   

We recognise that we have a moral and social responsibility to support and contribute to the wider process of change through all aspects of its work and practices in order to eliminate discrimination and promote equality and diversity.  

 Wodson Park is committed to taking positive steps to ensure that:  

  • Everyone is treated with dignity and respect, valuing the diversity of all;  
  • equality of opportunity and diversity is promoted;  
  • services are accessible, appropriate and delivered fairly to all;  
  • the mix of its staff, customers, coaches, volunteers, trustees, and contractors reflects, as far as possible, the broad mix of the population of its local community;  
  • traditionally disadvantaged sections of the community are encouraged to participate in sport and recreation.
